DOWN MEMORY LANE
About 7-8 years ago I came across ‘High Jinks’ – a compilation of personal experiences in the department, recounted by officers of 1976 batch of IRS – retired as well as serving at that time. It was a good read. Some anecdotes were outrageously hilarious while others were humbling and enlightening. The good thing about that compilation, edited by Mr. KK Mohapatra, is that one need not belong to 1976 batch to appreciate the contents. Of course the officers of 1976 batch would definitely identify with the events better than others.
I toyed with the idea that a similar collection of our batch can also be brought out. I was duly warned by Mohanty (he was associated with Mr. KK Mohapatra) who told about the difficulties to be faced in such an effort. Still I floated the idea! I got some responses from Khalkho, NP Sinha and Vyawahare. However, despite various requests not much material was available to me. So the project did not take off.
The idea, however, did not die. So following, EKLA CHALO RE, I am thinking of narrating a few personal experiences I had in the department. If there are any takers, I can share these with the entire batch. Meanwhile I would request each one of you to kindly access and read ‘High Jinks’. Also consider penning (rather keying in – in today’s digital environment) your own experiences. I am sure that our batch has rich memories of various deputations, in court matters, with politicians and with departmental functions.
